Our Commitment

At Sugarhill Farmstead, we are committed to producing high-quality food we are proud to feed to our children and our community while pricing it as affordably as possible. We invest in planting annual and perennial food sources on our farm to reduce our reliance on outside grain to feed our mono-gastric animals (pigs and chickens). Not only do these food sources, like hickory, apple, hazelnut, chestnuts, and oak trees, reduce our reliance on food stuff purchased from outside sources, but they also aid in creating more delicious meat that is fed a more diverse diet.

We are committed to using no pesticides, herbicides, steroids, antibiotics, or growth hormones. We believe in reducing the use of machinery wherever possible and allowing nature and our animals to do the work wherever they can. We believe bare ground is undesirable and tillage should be used very sparingly to reduce/eliminate erosion and preserve healthy soil microbiomes. We believe the health of our farm can be observed by looking at the diversity and density of wild insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals that call our property home.

Lastly, we are committed to treating our land, animals, and resources with respect and care. Our dedication to sustainable agriculture not only ensures the well-being of our livestock but also contributes to the preservation of the environment for future generations. By doing so, we provide our community with high-quality, nutrient-dense products that they can trust. We strive to embody our values of transparency, integrity, and compassion in every aspect of our operations, from pasture-raising our animals to minimizing waste production.
