PIGS

Our pasture-raised Duroc and Berkshire crossed pigs rotate through pastures we have strategically planted for them to forage and root, yielding a nutritiously dense and diverse diet of plants, insects, fruit, and nuts in addition to their Non-GMO feed. They eat apples by the bucketful from our apple trees, along with fresh produce and tree nuts such as chestnuts and acorns.

We rotate our pigs across our farm using solar-powered electric fences. This management practice optimizes pasture growth and palatability while ensuring that our grasses constantly pull carbon from the atmosphere and sequester it in their roots. It also deposits manure directly where it can be immediately converted into soil food.

We also invest in planting annual and perennial food sources on our farm to reduce our reliance on outside grain to feed our pigs. Not only do these food sources, like hickory, apple, hazelnut, chestnuts, and oak trees reduce our reliance on feed purchased from outside sources, but they also aid in creating more delicious meat that is fed a more diverse diet.
